The Builder's Keep

The workshop can be a chaotic place, and every builder needs a sanctuary. The Builder’s Keep was designed to be that refuge—a place to retreat from the dust, the heat, and the glorious madness of it all. It’s the first section of the shop to have a real theme, a small, castle-inspired office meant to be a strategic command center and a place to escape the heat of a California summer.

This station was built with the noblest of intentions: to be a quiet place for design, planning, and a moment of peace. But as so often happens in a busy workshop, even the best-laid plans fall to chaos. The Keep, a space meant for grand strategy, slowly became a holding ground for forgotten tools, spare parts, and half-finished projects. It was meant to be a sanctuary, but it became a storage unit.

Even in its current state, The Builder’s Keep is a monument to a builder's best intentions. It stands as a testament to the fact that sometimes the needs of the shop outweigh the desires of the builder, and a retreat becomes just another part of the workshop's ever-evolving, chaotic story.

These photos are from the construction phase, a time when the dream was still pure. This was the start of a sanctuary, a quiet place to escape the shop's chaos. Little did I know that lurking just around the corner was the dreaded storage monster, waiting to turn my peaceful retreat into its own cluttered lair.

So, I had this idea to make the top walls and ceiling of the Keep look like a cave. This was the start of a long process that, to this day, is not done. That's because, as you know, my keep is a storage unit now.
