The Carpenter's Guild
In the world of chaos that is our workshop, every project needs a solid foundation, and for most of them, that foundation is wood. This isn't just a place to store lumber; it's a Carpenter's Guild. It's a rugged, steel-and-wood frame that holds a bounty of materials, from small scraps and offcuts to full sheets of plywood. It’s a place where every piece of wood, no matter how small, is organized and waiting for its calling.
But it's more than just an organized home for wood. It's a monument to a builder's hope. This is a place for all the scraps I tell myself I'll use someday, a sort of purgatory for offcuts that were too good to throw away. These pieces—some barely bigger than a matchstick—are all here, waiting patiently to be reborn as something new. It’s a space where a builder's sentimentality and practicality meet, ensuring we always have the perfect material, even if it's been waiting for years.
The Guild is a silent partner to every woodworking project, ensuring we have a diverse library of materials at a moment's notice. It’s a testament to the fact that in a creative space, nothing goes to waste. Every piece of wood has a home, and a purpose, even if it has to wait a little while longer.

A lot of stations in the workshop start as one thing and, through a series of XP gains, they level up into something else entirely. This humble stand was the starting point, the common ancestor of both the Timber Time Station and the Carpenter's Guild. What you see here isn't just a workbench; it's the beginning of a process that would bring a whole new level of organization and chaos to the shop.

It became very clear that I was going to need more storage space. This design was the next evolution, but it's a testament to the fact that not all ideas are winners. This particular build didn't work out well, and honestly, it didn't last too long. It was a learning experience—a stepping stone on the way to a better solution.

And I scored another rack. I already had big plans for this one, and it's the start of what will become known as the Carpenters Guild.

I was all set to get the wood cut for the new section, but first, I had to take care of a bent section of the rack. It was a quick side-quest, and I didn’t even stress about making it perfect. Sometimes, 'good enough' is exactly what you need to move a big project along.

Rolling base? Check. Mounted? Check. Inside walls so I don’t have to stare into an empty void? Check. All the practical steps are done, but we all know that this project isn't truly finished until it gets some creative flair. That’s a non-negotiable must.

I started thinking about the floor, and I knew it was a must to add a hidden access panel for my daughter, should she ever start snooping around the shop. With the floor finished, I added a bumper for a little more decorative flair. It's the fun, personal details like this that make a project truly Freeky Geeky.

So why did I need a hidden box, you ask? This right here is the answer: a hidden treasure trove for my daughter. The best part is using the knot in the wood as a tiny window. Every good workshop needs a secret or two, especially if you’re a fabricator who is also a doting dad.

When you're building something on a whim, sometimes things just feel like they were meant to fit, such as that uplight post. Then, there are other times when you make a classic mistake and think that blue is going to be a good color for a part. It happens to the best of us; you live and you learn.
Sep 18-21, 2021
With the blue mistake fixed, it was time to continue on, but now with some hard-won wisdom. After years of collecting scrap, I knew exactly what I needed: a space for the big sheets at the back and a proper organizer for the longer scraps. It’s not just organizing; it’s designing for the specific mess I know I’m going to make.

I knew I wanted to give this station a name, and I really wanted to work that blue color into the theme. So, I combined my love for Final Fantasy with the need for a good, dramatic name, and thus the Carpenters Guild was born. Every workshop needs a good guild hall, even if it's just a place to stash some wood.

The test lumber is cut and fitted perfectly for the back design, but the next question was, how to mount it? There was only one logical option, of course: it was time to finally get that new tool I've been meaning to add to my collection. A true fabricator knows every project is just an excuse for an upgrade.
Sep 26-28, 2021
Yep, a rivet nut installer! That mounting question is solved. Now I can be sure the back is installed securely and with more bracing. This is going to have to keep the large sheets at the back from just falling, and I don’t mess around when it comes to structural integrity, even if my design is questionable.

It was finally time to focus on the shelving area. But, as always, a distraction got in the way. This time it was mounting the sign to the front. That only led me to thinking about adding more features before I finally figured out how I wanted to do the shelves. The chaos always finds a way to multiply, even when you're trying to focus.
Oct 1-6, 2021
And there it is, the shelf area is finally done. You know, that boring functional part is always the hardest. Now I can dedicate my time to all the extra distractions that popped into my mind while I was supposed to be focused. The real fun always happens on the side quests.
Oct 9-12, 2021
We've got a removable side board here, and if you ask me why I needed it, I honestly can't tell you. My brain just said I needed it, so I built it. On top of that, I added another sign and built a scrap bin that is special in so many ways. Why just throw away scrap when you can over-engineer the container?

And there we have it, folks! Time for the show-off pictures of a completed project. The best part of finishing is always seeing it put to use. Of course, the practical side of me knows it would never stay this organized... ever. That’s just the nature of a Freeky Geeky workshop.
